When To Read Taraweeh Dua?
Sadly, many only read the Taraweeh dua in the month of Ramadan. But you need to know that Taraweeh dua should not be recited or saved for the holy month of Ramadan only. The dua can be read during Tahajjud, and after your daily prayers.
Is Taraweeh Dua Compulsory?
Another question about Taraweeh due people often asked is if the supplication is compulsory. The answer is no, but you need to know that dua is worship itself. And for the Taraweeh is also not a compulsory prayer but a sunnah mustahabbah (i.e., recommended).
An-Nu’man bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Du’a (supplication) is worship.” [Abu Dawud].

How To Pray Taraweeh Dua
Scholars have noted that the Prophet (PBUH) prayed Tarawih in various numbers of rak’ahs, including eight, twelve, and even twenty, along with the three Witr rak’ahs. The choice is yours! While opinions differ on the exact number, all scholars unanimously agree that the quality of Tarawih prayers holds greater significance than the quantity.
If you want to learn how to pray Taraweeh step by step you follow this guide.
Summary
- Taraweeh, observed by Muslims during the sacred month of Ramadan, is regarded as one of the blessings of this holy month.
- While Taraweeh prayer is not obligatory (Fardh) in Islam, it holds a special significance. According to numerous scholars and the teachings of the Sahabas (companions of the Prophet), it is confirmed as Sunnah (a recommended practice) because the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to perform it.
- Taraweeh is often referred to as Qiyaam al-Layl, signifying night prayers. Congregational Taraweeh prayers are encouraged, following the practice of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
- Typically, Taraweeh prayers are performed in congregation after the Isha prayer. However, it is important to note that the time for Taraweeh (Qiyam) extends from after Isha prayer until Fajr prayer.
- The Taraweeh prayer consists of 20 Rakats, with each Rakat comprising 2 units of prayer. There is a short break after every 4 Rakats.
- It is common practice to follow the Imam of the mosque during Taraweeh congregational prayers, with the intention of performing 2 Rakats.
- After completing the 20 Rakats of Taraweeh, it is customary to pray 3 units of Witr prayer in congregation.
