Who is Mehdi Yarrahi?
Mehdi Yarrahi, born on 14 November 1981 in Ahvaz, Iran, is a prominent Iranian singer, musician, and activist currently residing in Tehran.
His professional journey took flight in 2010, marking the beginning of a remarkable career in the music industry.
However, in December 2018, during a concert, he faced repercussions for his activism. He was arrested for wearing the uniform of workers involved in the 2017-2018 labor protests in Khuzestan and for releasing the music video of “Pare Sang” (Broken Stone). As a consequence, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting imposed a ban on his performances and appearances on stage and television.
Despite the challenges, Mehdi Yarrahi’s passion for music persevered. After six months, the ban on his singing was eased on 17 July 2019, offering a glimmer of hope. However, this respite was short-lived, as he was once again prohibited from performing in February 2020.
Throughout his career, Mehdi Yarrahi’s music and activism have resonated with many, making him a symbol of courage and resilience within the Iranian music scene. Despite the hurdles he has faced, his talent and dedication to his craft continue to inspire both fans and fellow artists alike.
