Abu Hafsah’s Biography

Abu Hafsah Abdul Malik Clare was born in Newfoundland, the tenth province of Canada. He was born blind.

He was 5 years old when his mom moved them to Nova Scotia where he went to a special school for blind children. Abu left that school when at the age of ten for a “normal” school. At the age of 9, he loves to wrestle, according to him, ″Wrestling became my passion and I was fascinated by professional wrestlers. The way they talked and the way they acted captivated me to the point where I wanted to become the very first totally blind person to become a pro wrestler.″

When I was 16 years old I read Roots by Alex Haley. In that book Islam was discussed briefly. I was intrigued by this religion where the people worshiped ONE God alone and with no partners. I came from an Irish catholic family and we were taught that Jesus was the son of God. In Islam, their were no such concepts. After reading roots I discovered another remarkable personality by the name of Malcolm X. (may ALLAH have mercy on him) His demeanor and he way he spoke sparked a new passion in my life. I desperately wanted to be a MUSLIM. I consumed as much knowledge as I could about this way of life. In 1996 after a perfect wrestling season of 29 wins without a loss I finally met a Muslim sister. After a brief discussion, my goal was achieved. I became a Muslim. (elhamduLILAH, all praise is due to Allah alone)

Since 1998, I’ve been talking in front of people about this remarkable and amazing way of life. In 2002, I became the first totally blind person to be accepted into a pro wrestling training school however, my passion for pro wrestling had left me so I didn’t pursue that career path any further. I continue to travel and give talks on Islam throughout the world and it is an honor to have the best job in the world.

In 1997, I received an Arabic Braille Qur’an as a gift and I’ve been studying it ever since. The purpose of this site is to give you the visitor a glimpse into the life of a caller to Islam. I hope it is accepted as an act of worship by ALLAH and a source of benefit to humanity Muslims and NonMuslims alike. Thank you and JazakALLAH khair (may Allah give you goodness) for visiting.
