3 Quls for protection
Abdullah ibn Khubayb reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Speak.” I said, “What should I say?” The Prophet said, “Say: He is Allah, the One, (112:1) and the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq and al-Nas, every evening and morning three times. They will be enough for you against everything.”

When to recite 3 quls?
According to the above narration, the Prophet [s.a.w] used to recite the 3 quls every morning and evening. So, It is advisable you recite these surahs at the prescribed times.
What are the three quls before sleeping?
The three quls to recite before sleeping are Surah Nas, Suratul Ikhlas, and Surah falaq. When retiring to his bed every night, the Prophet [S.A.W] would hold his palms together, and (whilst blowing – would) lightly spit in them, recite the last three capters of the Quran and then wipe over his entire body as much as possible with his hands, beginning with is head and face and then all parts of the body, he would do this three times.

Narrated Abu Mas’ud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If somebody recited the last two Verses of Surat Al-Baqara at night, that will be sufficient for him.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 5009
What does Ayat al-Kursi protect you from?
Ayat al-Kursi protect you from devil and his agents, Jinns.
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah ‘s Apostle ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing of the foodstuff. I caught him and said, “I will take you to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)!” Then Abu Huraira described the whole narration and said:) That person said (to me), “(Please don’t take me to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you.) When you go to your bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi, (2.255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn.” (When the Prophet (ﷺ) heard the story) he said (to me), “He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar; and it was Satan. [Bukhari]
